When it comes to disc wheels, we’re obsessed with aero excellence. After all, our first product was a disc. Our quarter-century-long quest for the knowledge of speed allowed us to create the Super-9 Carbon Clincher. We’ve validated our findings in the wind tunnel and refined them further in the “virtual wind tunnel” using powerful Computational Fluid Dynamics software analysis. The result? The Super-9 Carbon Clincher optimizes supreme aerodynamics, power transfer, stiffness, lightweight and durability -- all with the convenience and low rolling resistance of a clincher.
Our Carbon Clincher’s non-parallel brake track helps to smooth the airflow transition from the tire onto the disc’s surface. It’s a key piece of the aerodynamics puzzle. The Carbon Clincher brake track combined with the Super-9’s wide profile, which runs virtually the same width from rim to hub, create an ultra aero wheel. Our exclusive resin effectively tolerates the incredible spikes in heat caused by braking to provide reliability and stopping power.
The Super-9 Carbon Clincher, which weighs 1,175 g, is an ideal triathlon or time trial setup when paired with the 808 Firecrest Carbon Clincher or 404 Firecrest Carbon Clincher. Time trial superstar Tony Martin of the Omega Pharma – Quick-Step Cycling Team is a believer, already having validated the Super-9 Carbon Clincher with a German National Championship and a silver medal in London.

Compatible with cassettes of up to 11-speed to work with all modern drivetrains. Comes with our new Tangente Platinum Pro Evo Brake Pads, designed to provide optimal braking for carbon surfaces, including a greater surface area for maximum braking power, improved clearance to work with integrated brakes and a new groove pattern for improved braking in wet conditions.

We worked with our composites supplier to develop an exclusive heat-resistant resin based on the materials used in motorsports brake systems. This proprietary technology improves heat management so substantially that all Zipp Carbon Clinchers pass stringent CEN safety standards.
ABLC™ (Aerodynamic Boundary Layer Control)
Advanced Boundary Layer Control (ABLC) refers to the patented and instantly recognizable dimpled pattern found on all of our carbon rims. ABLC smoothes airflow across the rim's surface and is tailored to every model from the 202 to the Super-9 Disc. The third-generation of ABLC has up to four times more dimples than before.
88/188 Hub Technology
Every aspect of our 88 and 188 hubs sets a new benchmark. The standard steel bearings are the roundest in the industry. The 17mm axle is the stiffest of any road hub we've tested. The wire EDM-cut hub internals are the most precise. When it comes to precision and performance, there's really no comparison.
Electron Discharge Machining allows us to cut the materials for our rear hub drive internals after they’ve been hardened through heat treating, negating the warping and imprecision caused by the heat-treating process.
Zipp is the only company specifying Swiss made highly specialized ball bearing cartridges. Working with a family owned Swiss bearing manufacturer, Zipp is able to attain a superior level of bearing smoothness and long life. Zipp ball bearings are specified to 10 millionths of an inch tolerance, guaranteeing that they are at least 2.5 times rounder and better matched than most company’s “high precision” balls, and more than five times tighter than most “precision” balls.
