The 45mm deep 303 Firecrest delivers unmatched aero performance when used with the wide tires that today’s riding demands. We’ve achieved this with a wide disc-specific rim design featuring ABLC dimples extending all the way to the outer edge of the rim. In addition to achieving AeroBalance™, the industry leading crosswind stability and low aerodynamic drag that defines all Firecrest wheels, the new 303 Firecrest delivers lower drag than the outgoing version when used with 25c or wider tires. The aerodynamic performance gap between a narrower rim and the new 303 grows even larger with 28c and wider tires thanks to a smoother transition between the tire’s profile and our new rim shape.
Designed from the start as a tubeless rim, the 303 Firecrest features a rim bed made with internal ridges to lock the tire’s bead in place, ensuring secure performance, even when ridden at lower tire pressures. Setup tubeless and emblazoned with your choice of six color decal options at the factory, 303 Firecrest wheels are as alluring as they are easy to use. And should you choose to run tubed tires, such as our ultra-low rolling resistance Tangente Speed or Course R28 clinchers, the new 303 is fully compatible.
A new carbon fiber layup keeps weight low while maintaining the 303’s legendary durability. The rim’s lightweight design allows the 303 to glide up the steepest climbs while our robust 77/177D hubset, paired with 24 Sapim® CX-Ray spokes front and rear, keep the wheels stiff and responsive. To ensure compatibility with any bike, our versatile 77/177D hubs come with swappable end caps to work with QR’s and thru-axles, including 12x100mm and 15x100mm front thru-axles as well as 12x135mm and 12x142mm rear thru-axles. The 177D rear hub is also XDR freehub body compatible for use with SRAM 10-42 cassettes. And like all Zipp carbon wheels, the new 303 Firecrest is laid up, molded, drilled and assembled in Indianapolis, USA.

Our superior Carbon Clincher technology is the culmination of two years of intensive prototyping and testing. We worked with our composites supplier to develop an exclusive heat-resistant resin based on the materials used in motorsports brake systems. This proprietary technology improves heat management so substantially that all Zipp Carbon Clinchers pass stringent CEN safety standards.
ABLC™ (Aerodynamic Boundary Layer Control)
Advanced Boundary Layer Control (ABLC) refers to the patented and instantly recognizable dimpled pattern found on all of our carbon rims. ABLC smoothes airflow across the rim's surface and is tailored to every model from the 202 to the Super-9 Disc. The third-generation of ABLC has up to four times more dimples than before.
VCLC™ (Visco-Elastic Constrained Layer Control)
Visco-Elastic Constrained Layer Control (VCLC) uses a vibration-absorbing material sandwiched between layers of rigid carbon laminate in the rim. When the wheel receives an impact from the road, much of the shock is absorbed by the VCLC system, delivering a 10% reduction in vibration.
Electron Discharge Machining allows us to cut the materials for our rear hub drive internals after they’ve been hardened through heat treating, negating the warping and imprecision caused by the heat-treating process.
Zipp is the only company specifying Swiss made highly specialized ball bearing cartridges. Working with a family owned Swiss bearing manufacturer, Zipp is able to attain a superior level of bearing smoothness and long life. Zipp ball bearings are specified to 10 millionths of an inch tolerance, guaranteeing that they are at least 2.5 times rounder and better matched than most company’s “high precision” balls, and more than five times tighter than most “precision” balls.
