The Service Course SL-88 is the traditional road racer’s bar. The classic round drop shape has been refined based on modern fitters while retaining the familiar feel and proven ergonomics of a traditional round road bar.

The SL-88 allows the athlete a “long and low” position in the drops. Also, the ends of drops provide a horizontal flat position for the rider to rest straight down upon. This versatility comes from the bar’s longer 88mm reach (the horizontal distance from the bar’s stem clamp area to center of the brake perch) and deeper 130mm drop (vertical distance from bar’s stem clamp area to bottom of drops).

In addition, the bar’s 14° ramp angle (the slope of the bar from the curve of the tops to the brake perch) provides a smooth transition to the brake hoods for a comfortable ergonomic hand position on the hoods. Crafted from 7050 aluminum, this bar is lightweight and durable. Drops are angled outward by 3 degrees to reduce wrist strain. The SL-88 is clip compatible. Available in High Polish Black with white logos or Beyond Black.

This spring Zipp introduced a revamped line of Service Course SL bars. Service Course is Zipp’s line of bars they introduced to serve the needs of the pro teams they were sponsoring. Because trusting a carbon fiber handlebar following a crash is maybe not wise or easy, Zipp designed an aluminum cockpit meant to stand up to the rigors of the top professional. The idea is that the bars, in particular, may not be the lightest ever made from aluminum, but they are stiff enough to handle Tom Boonen’s sprint, as well as strong enough to take a crash (or two) and make it to the end of the race.

What had been three bars is now four to give every rider an option based on fit and bend preference. The names are derived from the bars’ reaches, respectively 70mm, 80mm and 88mm. The drop varies for each as well.
