Sport/discipline: Ironman® Triathlon
About TJ: Born and raised in Iowa, TJ began competing in triathlon while earning his degree in Industrial Engineering from the University of Iowa. Upon graduation he accepted a job as an engineer at Alcoa® Aluminum (a Zipp® supplier) and continued to race as an amateur. He climbed the rankings and won an Overall Age Group National Championship in 2004 (riding Zipp 404s). TJ turned professional in 2005 and continues to climb the ranks in the professional arena of Ironman® athletes. Zipp wheels have been a part of TJ's success from the beginning and continue to be an integral part of his success.
Hometown: Des Moines, Iowa
Current residence: Des Moines, Iowa; Tucson, Arizona for winters
SRAM products used: SRAM SRM Crank with 54/42 Chainrings, SRAM RED brakes, RED shifters, RED derailleurs, GXP ceramic Bottom Bracket, SRAM RED cassette.
Zipp products used: 404, 808 (all Firecrest® Carbon Clinchers), 900 Clincher Disc
Favorite SRAM product and why: The SRAM RED Cassette is truly a revolution; machined from a single block of Aluminum it is the stiffest and smoothest shifting.
Favorite Zipp product and why: 808 Firecrest® Carbon Clinchers are the best all around wheels, light enough to climb with and stiff enough to sprint with, the 808 Firecrests are my go to wheels.
