Michael Lovato

Sport/discipline: Triathlon - Ironman and 70.3

About Michael: He comes from a sporting background that included soccer, swimming, basketball, water polo, track and field, and even gymnastics. Michael has been athletic, has always loved to compete, and has always loved to push himself to be the best he can be. In college Michael discovered triathlon, and has been hooked on it ever since. He raced for seven years as an age grouper, and turned pro in 2000. Not everyone knows that he used to be a high school Spanish teacher, or that he is secretly a dog whisperer, which he learned from Amanda.

Hometown: Albuquerque, N.M.

Current residence: Boulder, Colo.

SRAM® products used: The whole groupset! Crankset, shifters, derailleurs, cassette, brake calipers, and, of course, chain!

Zipp® products used: Where to begin?! I use the VukaAero™ Bar, 808 Firecrest® (in clincher and tubular), the Sub-9 disc, an occasional 404 Firecrest, the Service Course® SL stem, Tangente™ Tubulars and Clinchers (23 mm!), Tangente High Performance Cork brake pads (or the Tangente Platinum Pro pads), and 101 clinchers for training. I think I use it all.

Favorite SRAM product and why: SRAM OG 1090 cassette: light, smooth, good looking, easy to remove/install. Fast.

Favorite Zipp product and why: I’m going to have to say my VukaAero Bar is my favorite, because it allows me to achieve the perfect aero position. The bar is stiff, aero and adjustable. Plus, it looks mean on my bike!
