Stars Bright in California
Omega Pharma – Quick-Step Pro Cycling sends a power-packed roster to the Amgen Tour of California, which starts Sunday in Sacramento and ends May 18 in Thousand Oaks. The team is headlined by three of the cycling’s biggest stars, Mark Cavendish, Tom Boonen and 2014 Paris-Roubaix winner Niki Terpstra.
Look for the famous and formidable OPQS sprint train to form at the head of the peloton whenever there’s a chance for a mass gallop to victory. Cavendish’s longtime lead-out specialist Mark Renshaw, rising star Guillaume Van Keirsbulck, and Tour de France stage winner Matteo Trentin will help give OPQS plenty of options when it comes to controlling the pace or setting up the final sprint.
OPQS rides Zipp wheels, bars, stems and seatposts including the 404 Firecrest for all-around aerodynamic efficiency and stability, Service Course SL bars and the SL Sprint stem, which has highest stiffness-to-weight ratio of any carbon stem on the market.
Committed to Women’s Racing
The Amgen Tour of California also showcases women’s racing with an opening day circuit race Sunday in Sacramento and a time trial Monday in Folsom. Both races are presented by SRAM. In the circuit race, Twenty16 Pro Cycling P/B Breakaway from Cancer team includes Alison Tetrick and Greta Neimanas. Twenty16 Pro Cycling rides Zipp wheels, bars, stems, seatposts and tires. Stars Evelyn Stevens and Carmen Small will line up for Specialized-lululemon, which relies on Zipp bars, stems and seatposts.
Individuals for the Women’s time trial include Amber Gaffney and Alison Tetrick, (TWENTY16) and Greta Neimanas (U.S. Paracycling Team). Look for the proven Zipp 808 Firecrest / Super-9 Disc combo in the race of truth.
