Power of Youth
At just 23, Guillaume Van Keirsbulck of Omega Pharma – Quick-Step motored to overall victory in VDK Driedaagse de Panne-Koksijde with a solid fifth place ride in the final time trial. Teammate Gert Steegmans finished third overall. In the final time trial, his Specialized Shiv was equipped with a Zipp 808 Firecrest front and Zipp Super-9 Disc in the rear.
Van Keirsbulck is emerging as a potential new Spring Classics star. At 192cm tall (almost 6-foot-4), he’s a formidable presence in the peloton with sprinting and all-around ability in the model of Tom Boonen and other classic specialists on his team. As a junior, he won in Roubaix. On the OPQS website, he lists his favorite races as the Ronde Van Vlaanderen and Paris-Roubaix.
“I can consider this the most important victory of my career. I think that I developed the base for this season starting last year at La Vuelta,” Van Keirsbulck in an OPQS team release. “That was my first big tour. Since that moment I feel stronger, even if I know that I have to work really hard to even improve. I also solved my problem with the back that was present during my winter training. Now I'm happy and I can enjoy this moment."
