Rappstar Charity Challenge supports World Bicycle Relief
SRAM and Specialized athlete Jordan Rapp is hosting his fifth annual fundraiser for World Bicycle Relief and aims to raise $100,000. To support Rapp’s commitment to sport and charity, Specialized will be matching the first $30,000 in donations to his campaign during the week leading into the IRONMAN World Championship in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii.
Donations between Oct. 7th and Oct. 12th to Rapp’s fundraising page will be matched dollar for dollar, doubling the impact of the donors while still giving them the opportunity to win a host of prizes donated by Rapp’s sponsors, including a Specialized Shiv dream bike spec’ed with SRAM and Zipp.
To date, Jordan Rapp has raised over $175,000 for the work of World Bicycle Relief with the goal of $100,000 through his 2013 challenge, a significant jump from his 2012 result ($73,000); Rapp wanted to reach a noteworthy six-figure mark in celebration of his fifth consecutive fundraiser. World Bicycle Relief’s Buffalo Bikes are assembled locally and represent a life-changing asset to a person in need. A bike can quintuple a person’s carrying capacity and quadruple the distance one can travel in an hour. To someone living in rural Africa, a bicycle can provide access to clean water, medicine, and an education. The power of mobility created by a single Buffalo Bike is said to have a positive impact on the lives of five people in a given community. Given this statistic, if Rapp is able to reach his goal with the support of Specialized, over 3,700 rural Africans will realize a positive impact.
“At the 2013 IRONMAN World Championship, Jordan Rapp will be racing one of the highest performing bikes in the world and, through the support of Specialized, he’ll be raising money for perhaps the most powerful bike in the world: the bike in the hands of a mother trying to feed her children, or the bike in the hands of a student fighting for her education,” said FK Day, Founder and President of World Bicycle Relief. “Please join us to bring the spirit of the IRONMAN into the lives of individuals in great need and empower them to rock their world.”
