Martin clinches world TT title on Zipp Carbon Clinchers
Germany’s Tony Martin – an early proponent of using clincher wheels in races against the clock – rode Zipp Carbon Clinchers to a commanding victory Thursday in the UCI Men’s Elite Time Trial World Championship in Italy.
Tony rode an 808 Firecrest Carbon Clincher paired with a Super-9 Carbon Clincher Disc. With a lower rolling resistance, it's the fastest wheel combo we’ve produced. Tony added to his advantage as the kilometers ticked by against fellow TT strongmen Bradley Wiggins and Fabian Cancellara. In the end, Tony covered the covered the 57.2km course in 1:05:36.65 – that’s 52.957 kilometers per hour, or 32.9 mph!
The win comes days after Martin also claimed gold as part of his Omega Pharma – Quick-Step Cycling Team’s victory Sunday in the UCI Elite Men’s Team Time Trial. OPQS relied on the 808 Firecrest / Super-9 combo in the team time trial, as did pro triathletes Sebastian Kienle and Melissa Hauschildt as they won the men's and women's Ironman© 70.3 World Championship recently in Henderson, Nevada.
It's the choice of champions.
