Huge week for women's cycling at Exergy Tour
The inaugural Exergy Tour is a crucial milestone for women’s professional racing, and SRAM® and Zipp® are proud to participate as official partners of this exciting five-day race through rugged and beautiful Idaho.
Competition begins Thursday evening in Boise, travels through Southwestern Idaho before returning to Boise for the final day of racing Monday. The Exergy Tour brings together 16 teams totaling 117 riders from seven countries, all competing for $100,000 in prize money. The event marks both the return of a premier stage race for the women's professional peloton to the United States as well as an important stepping stone for international athletes vying for this summer’s London Olympics.
Team Exergy TWENTY12, headed by defending Olympic gold medalist and Boise resident Kristin Armstrong, is among the elite teams at Exergy Tour. Team Exergy TWENTY12 rides Zipp wheels, bars, stems, seatposts and Zipp Tangente tires, as well as SRAM drivetrains.
“It’s an unbelievable feeling for me to compete against the highest caliber of riders in and around my hometown,” Armstrong said. “SRAM and Zipp are a big part of this. They not only provide me and my Team Exergy TWENTY12 teammates with the absolute best wheels and components, they’re also committed to the success of women’s cycling through their support of showcase events like this.”
What’s more, SRAM's Professional Neutral Race Support will be in the race caravan ready to provide any rider regardless of team with mechanical help, spare parts, wheels or a bike. SRAM's pro mechanics and their signature red Volvo XC70 cars are at the ready with Zipp's 404 Firecrest® Carbon Clincher race wheels and Specialized® race bikes equipped with SRAM component groups, Zipp Service Course bars, stems and seatposts.
