It’s been fun, California
The Amgen Tour of California features great weather, great fans and – of course -- action-packed racing.
Levi Leipheimer of the Omega Pharma – Quick-Step Cycling Team showed his talent and determination with a spirited ride to finish sixth overall in the eight-day race. The race marked Leipheimer’s return to competition after he suffered a fractured fibula April 1 when he was hit from behind by a car. Levi and teammates including Peter Velits used the Zipp 202 in the mountains.
Teammate Tom Boonen, aboard 808 Firecrest wheels, placed second in Sunday’s final stage with teammate Gerald Ciolek taking third. Peter Sagan won the stage, his impressive fifth stage win of the race.
Defending Olympic gold medalist Kristin Armstrong of Team Exergy TWENTY12 won Thursday’s Amgen Tour of California Women’s Time Race in Bakersfield. She rode a Zipp 808 Firecrest, Zipp 900 Disc and VukaBull aero bar en route to victory. It was a show of impressive form as she aims for the Olympics.
The Amgen Tour of California also provided a great opportunity for us to talk with customers and fans at our booth in the expo area, where we highlighted products including our all-new Vuka Alumina aero bar.
