Ready for California

Zipp® will be on the scene at next week’s 2012 Amgen Tour of California. Look for us to bring you race updates, tech and athlete features and more as the race runs from its start May 13 in Santa Rose to its conclusion May 20 in Los Angeles.

The Omega Pharma – Quick-Step Cycling Team is in California with a power-packed roster. We're hopeful for the participation of three-time champ and hometown favorite Levi Leipheimer. Levi has been recovering from a fractured fibula sustained April 1 when he was hit from behind by a car. In the sprints, look for Belgian superstar Tom Boonen hot off his historic spring campaign that included victories in the Tour of Flanders and Paris-Roubaix. Look for the Omega Pharma – Quick-Step Cycling Team to traverse the diverse California terrain with an array of Zipp wheels including the versatile 404 Firecrest, the ultra-aero 808 Firecrest and the built-for-speed Super-9 Disc.

We’re also excited about the second annual Amgen Tour of California Women's Time Trial Race presented by SRAM. The TT takes place May 17 in Bakersfield during Stage 5 of the Amgen Tour of California. The star-packed women’s start list includes Olympic gold medalist Kristin Armstrong as well as her Team Exergy TWENTY12 teammates Alison Tetrick Starnes and Tayler Wiles. Exergy TWENTY12 rides Zipp wheels, Zipp Tangente tires and Zipp bars, stems and seatposts.

If you’re at the Amgen Tour of California, watch for:

• SRAM Neutral Race Support: For the third year running SRAM’s Neutral Race (NRS) support crew will keep the professionals rolling over ATOC’s 800 miles. Four fully equipped Volvo XC-70’s, two Aprilia motos, and 13 technicians will be at the front, back, and middle of the peloton with SRAM and Zipp-equipped Specialized frames with Speedplay pedals.
• ATOC Lifestyle Expo: Zipp joins SRAM, Specialized® and Speedplay® to travel everyday along with the ATOC Lifestyle Festival showcasing the latest in bike tech. Fans can learn all about Zipp’s latest wheels, bars, stems and seatposts. They also have a chance to show their power at the SRAM booth on the Quarq-powered arm wrestling machine.
